OFA (Orthopedic Foundation of America) was founded to help breeders minimize inherited diseases. One of the most common and debilitating inherited problems in dogs is malformed (dysplastic) hips. Digital x-ray images are taken at 24 months of age to discover the degree of dysplasia before they are bred or used to father a litter. Many breeders will have preliminary images taken at 12 months of age. Most well behaved dogs can have these images taken without anesthesia. We charge a very reasonable $90 for OFA hip screening. If you need help with this or other OFA screening tests, please contact the hospital at (661) 942-1489.
