Vaccines

Feline Vaccination

Vaccinations needed for kittens and cats in the Antelope Valley:

FVRCP (Feline Rhinotracheitis [Herpes], Calicivirus, Panleukopenia):

  • 6 weeks of age
  • 9 weeks of age
  • 12 weeks of age
  • 1 year

The FVRCP vaccine is then given every 3 years throughout your cat's lifetime.

Rabies:

  • 12 - 16 weeks of age
  • 1 year

The non-adjuvenated vaccine is given every year throughout your cat's lifetime.

A note about non-adjuvenated vaccines: Adjuvants (aluminum salts) are added to vaccines to enhance their ability to stimulate an immune response. This makes them less expensive. Unfortunately, cats can develop serious cancers at the vaccine injection site. Boulevard Veterinary Hospital policy is to only use non-adjuvenated vaccines in kittens and cats.

For at-risk kittens and cats (indoor/outdoor cats):

FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus):

  • 9 weeks of age
  • 12 weeks of age
  • 1 year

The FeLV vaccine is given every year throughout your cat's lifetime or as long as they remain at risk.

Canine Vaccination

Vaccinations needed for ALL puppies and dogs in the Antelope Valley:

DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus & Parainfluenza):

  • 6 weeks of age
  • 9 weeks of age
  • 12 weeks of age
  • 1 year

The DHPP vaccine is then given every 3 years throughout your dog's lifetime.

Rabies:

  • 16 weeks of age
  • 1 year

The Rabies vaccine is then given every 3 years throughout your dog's lifetime.

For at-risk dogs the hospital recommends:

Bordetella (Kennel Cough): Given annually (the nasal vaccine is most effective.)

Rattlesnake vaccine: Given annually in the spring. (Consult with your doctor to discuss the need for this vaccine.)
